An iPhone application called Miso lets users “check in” to movies and TV shows that they’re watching, posting updates to other social networks and letting marketers send targeted messages. The network is one of a growing crop of “Foursquare-for-FILL-IN-THE-BLANK” networks that are applying Foursquare’s “check in” metaphor to events rather than just places, notes MG Siegler. TechCrunch

I downloaded the app today, we’ll see how it plays out. So far – I like that it easily integrates with Facebook, Twitter & Foursquare (extra bonus).

In T-minus a few days (yippie!) I’ll be among the masses in Austin for this year’s Nerd Spring Break 2010 (that is SXSW of course). There are entirely too many events to keep up with. Which is why, I am being quite friendly with Plancast.
Being the nerd that I am, I figured out how to sync my Plancast with my GCal (google calendar) which will then of course be on my iPhone. Do you follow?
A few moments after posting this fun fact on twitter, the lovely Sydney Owen wanted to do the same. So, I decided to share my ohh so top secret ways of making plancast and gcal be friends.
- Go to your profile page on plancast. Mine is http://plancast.com/elysa
- Right click the little Red iCal icon at the top.
- Click “Copy Link Locations“
- Open up Google Calendar
- At the bottom left under “Other calendars” click Add
- From the drop-down you will want Add by URL
- and voila GCal and Plancast are now married, or at least dating.
And if you wanna be the ultimate nerd like me, you can import your my.sxsw.com for your panel choices, and add Plancast for parties and put then all together into a fun calendar to share. Checkout Elysa @ SXSW
So there are some mega advantages to being a nerd (especially in the Dallas area) but I’d say one of the top advantages is I get to meet some pretty fantabulous people. About a year ago I got to meet Colin & Alyssa in person at my very first crawfish boil. It was traumatizing, but Alyssa showed me the ropes and all turned out well. If you live in the Dallas area and you haven’t yet met this duo you’re clearly living under a rock! They’re both on the board of SMC (Social Media Club) of Dallas, they are forever dueling over various mayorships in the DFW area (power to the foursquare nerd!) and recently they were givin a car to drive FOR FREE! I still can’t believe it!
Last night I received the following email from Colin, with some requests on how we can support their team! And of course I offered to spread their request for help to the world, because well they’re awesomesauce. So please read, and pass along, and retweet, and email your grandmother … the following message.
Friends and Family,
As you may or may not already know, Alyssa and I were selected to participate in Chapter 2 of the Ford Fiesta Movement.  The Ford Fiesta Movement is a promotional program for the new Ford Fiesta, a car targeted towards millennials and city dwellers (us).Only 40 people (20 teams) were selected out of well over 1,000 applicants.  For the next 4 months, we’ll be driving a Ford Fiesta around town, and completing a series of challenges for points.  At the end of the 4 months, the team with the most points wins a pair of new Fiestas!  Given the fact that Alyssa and I are sharing a car – we’re very motivated! There are a few ways that we could really use your help to win this competition.First of all, one of the scoring criteria is the number of pageviews to our official team page.  So, if you could set your web browser’s default homepage to the following URL, or try to visit our page regularly, it would help immensely.
Our official team page is: http://www.fiestamovement2.com/dallas.If you need help doing this, just let me know, I’ll be more than happy to show you!The next way you can help is by “following” our team’s profile for updates.  All you have to do is go to our official team page (http://www.fiestamovement2.com/dallas) and click the “follow this team” button (see the picture below for guidance).  You’ll be asked for your e-mail address, but you will only receive updates from the Fiesta Movement program.Next, each of our challenges will require us to plan and host a major event.  RSVPs for the event count towards our point total.  It would be helpful if you could RSVP each time we have an event (we’ll let you know!).Finally – feel free to pass this along to anyone and everyone you’ve ever met!  We can’t pull this off without the help of our friends and family, so anything that you can do to help is very appreciated! There may be other opportunities that come up from time to time, and we’ll let you know when we know!Much love and thanks,-Colin
This upcoming month is going to be jam packed with excitement, and traveling, and meeting fabulous people. Pretty sure I’ve never been so excited!
What’ I’m looking forward to this month:
- 3rd: I’m going to be on TV! I was interviewed by a local new station about my blog and life in the social media world. It airs Wednesday night the 3rd in Dallas some time in the 7-9pm slot on channel 21. I know it’s also set to re-air on channel 11, not sure of the date yet. If I figure out how to get a version online I will most definitely share.
- 3rd-4th: I’m going to Memphis for work. This is my first traveling by myself adventure since I’ve been at my current job (June 2009).
- 10th: I’m on the board of the local Social Media Club (Dallas) – we are having a tweetup (aka geek happy hour) after work just for fun. If you’re in the Dallas area – join us!
- 11th-17th: This deserves about 47 exclamation points – I’m going to Austin for SXSW!! Also, I have an ever-growin twitter list of who to watch/meet at SXSW, if you want to be added to the list just let me know.
- Monday the 15th @ 3:30pm: For all of you lucky enough to be attending SXSW mark your calendars. I’m on a panel with 4 fabulous Gen Yers. We are speaking about Why Gen Y Wants to Work ‘With’ You, Not ‘For’ You. Though we all are gen y, our work experience and current working environments are very different.

- and then there’s me: Elysa Rice, I work for Ellipse Communications, Inc. we provide websites and develop software for the multifamily industry (apartments). Our company can best be described as entrepreneur owned and operated with a little less than 50 employees, if we don’t count the Spiderman cut-out (he’s doesn’t produce a lot of work these days).
- 23rd-24th: I will be attending the Optimization Summits, two days of unconventional conferencing which is sure to give us a few ideas for what’s next in our marketing plan.
- Tuesday 23rd @ 6pm: Jason Falls, will be our featured speaker at the Social Media Club of Dallas talking about social media best practices for agencies and corporate marketers.
And so there you have it ladies and gents! What are you looking forward to this month?
